First Christian Church desires to make a difference in our community, our region and the world.

We make a difference in extravagant ways and in small acts of kindness; as a congregation, as a denomination and as an ecumenical community; through our wallets and by the sweat of our brow. We make a difference because we believe that while the kingdom of God awaits us, we are meant to be people helping to bring more of heaven to earth every day.

Here are a few of the ways we show what we believe, to whom we belong, and how we are in the process of becoming:

  • First Sunday’s food bank donations.
  • Crop Walk: an ecumenical effort in the fall that raises money to help locally with our food bank and globally with relief efforts.
  • Alternative Christmas Mall: an opportunity provided every Christmas to purchase gifts for those in need, instead of gifts for those who have most everything they want.
  • Work Weekends: we work to make a significant difference each year with 2-3 local organizations.
  • Handle Bars for Habitat: a triathlon (run, bike, kayak) that takes place in August which donates all proceeds to Habitat for Humanity).

Here are a few of the ways we show what we believe, to whom we belong, and how we are in the process of becoming:

  • Disciples Partners: Five times a year we participate with our denomination in over and above offerings because we believe we can do more together than we can apart.
  • Kamp Kaleo: We are completely committed to our regional camp. We not only give scholarships for every kid, but also maintain a cabin, make work trips and help with fundraising efforts. We believe the camp experience is something that can be formational for any person at any age.
