Children’s
Ministries
Children and youth are a priority for First Christian Church. We believe and teach that as kids experience church as a
loving, affirming, welcoming place, they will come to know a loving,
affirming, and welcoming God.
We offer programs for children and teens that make learning
fun as well as relevant. If
you are a parent, you know you have a tough job.
We want to help you help your kids discover true values and
make the right choices.
In
this game called Zap! Slay the Giant, from our unit on David and
Goliath, the children learn that God can help them slay the
"giants" in their own lives: fears like being afraid of
the dark, or getting bad grades, or bad dreams.
JOY
STREET is our innovative new Sunday School program.
Instead of traditional classrooms, the children rotate to a
different workshop each week. The different workshops are:
All
God's Children Theater - a drama center with a real stage
where the children can act out Bible stories or put on puppet shows.
Creation
Station - the art center features our own version of the
Sistine Chapel, with ceiling panels painted by the children
themselves. This center is more than arts and crafts; it is
intended to help children connect with their innate artistic
abilities.
HolyWord
Movies - the video center is especially appealing to our
media-savvy kids.
The
Wild Kingdom -
this resource center provides an attractive place for fun Bible
study, interactive games, or quiet reading.
www.kingdom.come
- our computer lab provides a 21st century learning
environment for the children; plus it's a lot of fun!

Two
third-graders figure out how to help David slay the giant Goliath in
an interactive computer game that also teaches the biblical story.
Our children’s Christian education program emphasizes
learning biblical content. We
think children need to know the scriptures.
The Bible is the source book of our faith, God’s inspired
and inspiring word. Our children’s learning begins by
stressing the importance of knowing the great stories of our faith.
But just knowing the Bible isn’t enough.
We try and help every child understand what relevance the
scripture has for their every day life.
What does the Bible have to say when they are tempted to
cheat on a test or when a friend disses them?
What does it have to say about how we should treat one
another? (even our
little brothers and sisters!)
Finally, we believe there’s no reason that learning can’t
be fun. We stress
interactive, experiential learning.
After all, kids will remember only 10% of what they hear, but
90% of what they do. So we use active learning through out our children’s
Christian education program.
