Young Disciples Grade 6
Preparation for Confession of Faith and Baptism
Our Young Disciples class allows youth to explore questions of faith about God, Jesus, the Church, the Bible, Communion and Baptism. Working together in class taught by one of the Pastors (10:10- 10:50 am) and in extended session (10: 55- 11:30) with a mentor chosen by each Young Disciple, youth are given the tools they need to make their own decisions about faith. In the late spring if they choose to (we, of course hope they’ll choose to) they will confess their faith in Jesus Christ, accepting him as “Lord and Savior of the World” and will receive the gift of Christian Baptism. As with all of our ministries with children and youth, our teachers are trained to follow “safe-sanctuary” procedures.
Youth (Grades 7-12)
In Sunday School our youth talk and learn about issues of faith that truly matter to them in a collaborative, fun and engaging environment.
Depending on the numbers of youth in each grade, sometimes Middle and High School groups form two classes.
As with all of our ministries with children and youth, our teachers are trained to follow “safe-sanctuary” procedures.
Youth Groups
Holy Hilarity, Sharing life’s highs and lows, Exploring issues of faith and life, Caring for each other, Worshiping together, Doing things to make the world a better place, Creating a place, time and space where everyone belongs and everyone is cared for, our Chi Rho (middle school) and C.Y.F. (Christian Youth Fellowship – for High School) groups generally meet together, but on occasion divide for discussion.
Regular meetings are held Sundays from 6:00-8:00 pm in our youth room. Themes for our meetings are based on ideas from the youth. A team of adult sponsors and one of our pastors lead the groups. Depending on the theme at the time, mission projects and outings are part of youth groups, too. An annual Christmas Retreat, Caroling for the congregation’s shut-ins, planning and leading Youth Sunday, Raising money for mission are part of the usual youth group year. In the summer, youth participate in Kamp Kaleo and have opportunities for mission and other trips together. As with all of our ministries with children and youth, our youth leaders are trained to follow “safe-sanctuary” procedures.
Kamp Kaleo
Kamp Kaleo, located in Burwell, Nebraska, along the North Loop River, is a special place where our youth can experience God in a natural environment while engaging in lots of recreational activities.
Campers, starting at age 5, can enjoy arts and crafts, horseback riding, canoeing, campfires, outdoor games, and much more. By the time they are in middle school and high school our kids are counting down the days to camp. Each year a different weekly theme encourages spiritual growth and building a closer relationship to God. Kamp Kaleo offers a lifetime of lasting memories and enhances the faith experience of our young people. For more information, please click here.
